Meet Pip The Wonder Pup

Food is not all about you! Actually, the best part of food is feeding the other creatures in your life (family and friends-both human and otherwise). Which brings me to Pip. Pip is the other ‘foodie’ in this house and will eat most anything. Although it’s always refreshing to have a creature nearby that is willing to eat her veg (Pip loves broccoli, bless her!) and who never complains about presentation (although nobody really does… I’m just being silly), there are some food guidelines that you should know regarding pets and people food.

Here’s what I just learned via the ASPCA web site.

Don’t let your pet eat:

  • Coffee Grounds or anything with caffeine, Tea included
  • Grapes or Raisins (I knew about the raisins. Pip loves grapes, guess she’s had her last)
  • Chocolate
  • Yeast Dough (very small amounts of baked bread are OK)
  • Avocado
  • Alcoholic Beverages
  • Macadamia Nuts (who knew?)
  • Undercooked or Raw Meat, Eggs and Bones
  • Milk
  • Onions (including garlic, chives and other members of the onion family)
  • Salt
  • Fatty Foods
  • And anything containing the sweetener Xylitol

Pip is wonderful for all sorts of reasons, not all food related. Next time we share a meal, remind me to tell you the story of Pip and the F Train.

And to those of you that take care of creatures or humans, ‘Happy Mother’s Day!’.

  1. Oslo is so very glad that peanut butter is not on the ASPCA list of forbidden foods for dogs!
Now, if we could just get him to stop eating socks-ugh.

  3. I remember the morning I accompanied you and the Pipster to the park where he, and lots of his fellows, ran free. I think that's the day I fell in love with Maltese (sp). Pip is the coolest. And what a perfect name for a tiny little thing with so much life.

    Another wonderful post.

Just an addition to the no-nos listed above. Chocolateshould be capped and bolded. While my sister was away, her former dog jumped up on a counter and ate a bag of chocolate chips that were about to be sacrificed into cookies. The dog died an agonizing death that day, and my sister was crushed and guilt-ridden. Chocolate deserves its own category, or belongs with Arsenic and Malthion.

  5. Izzie (the soft brown quiet dog) loves carrots.

She once found the bag of choclate easter eggs - luckily no ill effects, but I will wonder always at how she managed to spit out the foil wrappers as she snarfed her ill-gotten booty.
